Caucus In Iowa

I am standing at one of the many Caucus sites (Republican for me) where I live in Eastern Iowa (Manchester Iowa). I brought my daughter so she could start to experience the political world in which I was introduced to at a young age by my mother.

It appears to be an incredible turnout tonight. 20 minutes to start and there are people in multiple lines still registering for their various precincts.

One person just announced that they are having to make more copies of the ballots due to the historic turnout.

In the picture you will see the room where the main event will occur before voting.

Christmas Eve

Back at church for Christmas Eve mass with the family. I think my Christmas blog post from the church has become a tradition. Which, I might add, became a tradition due to being bored from sitting here an hour before mass starts. We need to be here that early to get a seat.

30 minutes to showtime 🙂

Merry Christmas and God bless.

Conference Update

The Polycom User Group conference is going well. Current presenter is discussing the convergence of voice, video, data, and how organizations will continue to be affected by this convergence as well as how these technologies can be used for various industries.

Most technology professionals know convergence is occurring, that has been apparent over the past few years. The challenge occurs when working on ROI of the technology, aligning current staff positions as technologies converge, IT alignment and spending, integration and adoption, standards, funding, and education are a few.

Think Unified Communications…

On another note, I will post some pictures later once on laptop.

The Cost of Implementing Telepresence

I am at another interesting presentation about video conferencing and telepresence. Think about a minimal video conferencing install. Equipment is in the room, far site video comes in on a display (TV, LCD, projector, etc).

In short, telepresence takes a video conferencing room to the next level. The equipment is hidden and the display of remote video is engineered in to the room to give the feeling that the the people at the remote site are in your room. Room scheduling and central management of systems are part of this as well.

Telepresence is an incredible step forward with video conferencing as is High Definition video conferencing, however the cost is cosiderably higher up front in comparison to just placing a simple unit in a room.

If I only had an unlimited budget…
